Hardwood flooring in Monument, CO

Wide plank, white oak, patterns and stairs for homes up on the Palmer Divide, about 26 minutes north of Colorado Springs.

The town

Up on the Divide, in the pines.

Monument sits near the top of the Palmer Divide at close to 7,000 feet, where I-25 crests between Colorado Springs and Denver. The historic downtown along Second and Washington Streets is small. Most homes are in the subdivisions around it, like Jackson Creek, Promontory Pointe and Sanctuary Pointe, plus the older wooded lots of Woodmoor next door.

Housing runs from 1970s and 80s homes under the ponderosas to large newer builds with open plans, vaulted ceilings and staircases that make the entry. Mount Herman and Palmer Lake are never far from the window.

Open floor plans put a lot of floor on display at once, so board width, color and the way the stairs meet the floor matter more here than almost anywhere.

Higher and drier

Wood at 7,000 feet.

Divide winds and a long heating season pull moisture out of a house. Engineered hardwood is often the steadier pick over radiant heat or on a basement slab, and solid wood does best with time to acclimate before it goes down.

From a Seymour Floors customer

“This is a great company. Tyrone was kind and very knowledgeable on flooring. He gave great advice and was there through the whole process.”

FAQ

Monument flooring questions.

Is engineered hardwood better at this elevation?

In some rooms. Engineered boards move less with dry air and suit slabs and radiant heat. Solid hardwood still works well upstairs when it is acclimated and installed with proper expansion space.

Can new stairs match a floor that is already down?

Yes. Treads are cut from the same species and stained to match the existing floor.
