Matched to the floor

Stairs are part of the floor.

The staircase is often the first thing you see from the front door, and a mismatch shows. New treads get the same species and stain as the floor they meet, with clean nosing at every edge.

Stained treads over painted white risers is a look we build often. It keeps the stairs bright and lets the wood carry the color.

Carpet to wood

Swapping carpeted stairs for hardwood.

If your stairs are carpeted, wood treads and risers can go on in their place and be finished to match the floor at the bottom of the run.

Already wood? Worn treads can often be sanded and refinished along with the floor, so the stain and sheen line up.

Hardest working wood in the house

Treads take a beating.

Every trip up and down lands on the same few inches of each tread. A satin finish hides wear better than high gloss and is less slick under socks, which matters most on the stairs.

FAQ

Questions people ask.

Can new treads match my existing floor?

Yes. Treads are cut from the same species and stained to match, so the floor and the stairs read as one surface.

Do you do curved and spiral stairs?

We do. Curved stairs and spirals take more fitting and more patience, and the photos on this page are our own work on both.

Can worn stairs be refinished, or do they need replacing?

Often. If the treads are solid wood with enough thickness left, they can be sanded and refinished along with the floor.
